Anchorball · Activation · Hong Kong 2024
A three-month takeover of AIRSIDE Mall in Hong Kong — five inflatable monsters, two five-meter Sky Bunnis, an LED building wrap, a custom food collab, and a popup shop. One of the most fully realised activations in the Anchorball story.
The Activation
Anchorball connected with AIRSIDE Mall in Hong Kong for the March–May themed installation exhibit and art activation. The massive installation ran for three months and attracted thousands of visitors. It included five large inflatable monsters — the ‘Monstrous Marvels’, with the largest at 4 meters — five characters from ‘The Fuzz’, two five-meter inflatable anime-style bunnies named Starhopper and Quantum Leap, an animated LED display wrapping the building, an interactive selfie game, a magic mirror, photobooth, claw machine, and a merchandise booth shaped like a giant monster’s head.
01 — The Takeover
For three months, the AIRSIDE Mall was transformed into a fully immersive Anchorball universe. A custom food collaboration with Honbo Burger. A branded video game, selfie mirror, photo booth and claw machine. Five inflatable monsters from ‘The Fuzz’ up to four meters tall. Two five-meter-tall anime bunnies: Starhopper and Quantum Leap. A massive LED animation display wrapping the building. A monster-head merch booth packed with plushies and exclusives.
Anchorball also released a limited Starhopper edition honouring the old Kai Tak Airport, which once stood where AIRSIDE now lives.

02 — Inside the Exhibit
The installation included the “Kozmik Playground” space park, featuring a variety of cute monsters, each with unique personalities working harmoniously across the “AIRSIDE Star Monster Park”. Each monster is an inflatable between three and four meters tall and is part of the “Monstrous Marvels” series. The “Fantastic Phantom Space” is a dance area where visitors enter and the monsters imitate their moves. The “Weird Selfie Studio” lets visitors capture the moment in a monster-themed photo area.

03 — Sky Bunnis
The Sky Bunnis are a team of super-powered interstellar rabbits who save the galaxy from crisis. Brought to life as two five-meter-tall inflatable sculptures in AIRSIDE’s underground open-air plaza, they incorporate elements of the historic Kai Tak Airport — transforming it into these special inflatable forms.
04 — Eat & Take Home
The activation went beyond sculpture — with a custom food truck collaboration and a curated popup of monster-themed merchandise. Both designed to extend the Anchorball universe into something visitors could taste, wear, and bring home.

Honbo is a homegrown classic cheeseburger joint that celebrates the straightforward American-style burger. Founded in March 2017 in Wan Chai, Hong Kong, Honbo sources only high-quality ingredients including Double Gold Beef from Wisconsin. For the AIRSIDE × Anchorball event, Honbo created a character-inspired burger called the “Starhopper Sliders”, served alongside hot dogs, Mike’s Lemonade, and Apple Pie Frozen Tea.
A range of monster-themed Anchorball products produced exclusively for the event — t-shirts, plush dolls, tote bags, socks, and pintail pins — available only as part of the AIRSIDE collaboration.
“One of the best parts of the experience as far as the artist is concerned is the fun people and children have experiencing the work. It’s what makes it so fun.”
